Tesla CEO Elon Musk's $1bn non-profit OpenAI has unveiled a new program to train robots to complete a specific task after watching a person demonstrate it just once. The artificial intelligence research company developed a new algorithm called one-shot imitation learning that lets researchers communicate a task to an AI by performing it first in virtual reality and teach it to replicate the physical action.

The plant that the woman used to make the tea, called foxglove, contains potentially harmful compounds that act on proteins called ion channels in heart cells, and can cause a person's heart rate to slow down, said the lead author of the report, Dr. Mathew Kurian Vithayathil, a doctor at the King’s College Hospital in London, who treated the woman

The new report shows that, although herbal remedies may seem harmless, they can also be potentially fatal, especially if they are sold or purchased by people who have limited knowledge of plants, the researchers said.

So, no matter how safe a self-driving car is, the reality remains that as long as there are are also human drivers neglecting the law and basic human decency, self-driving cars are still at risk of accidents. For example, a self-driving car may not be able to detect being cut off because it is assuming everyone else on the road is driving rationally and safely.

Still, 43 percent of study participants said they agreed that "most accidents are caused by human error, so autonomous vehicles will be safer." And 37 percent agreed that "machines don't have emotions, so they might be better drivers than humans."

If parents, teachers or therapists had learning tools that could start to shift that attention, to help children with autism prioritise people and particularly their faces in social interactions, it could have a significant impact.

Made for children ages 5 to 12, Alvares' three games focus on a sausage dog named Frankie who needs help finding his friends.

"All three [games] target particular social skills that we think at least some kids with autism would find challenging," she said. "There are things like understanding emotions, or being able to pay attention to faces over objects, and also a skill called joint attention, which is being able to follow somebody else's gaze."

The robots are designed to drive autonomously while being monitored by human operators in control centres who can take over at any time. Introduced to European and American cities since the end of last year, the robots have already driven close to 5,000 miles and met over 400,000 people without a single accident.

Allan Martinson, the chief operating officer of developer Starship Technologies, tells Sky News: "We haven't lost a single robot in eight months, or been involved in any accidents that resulted in loss or injury."

It is cheaper than regular delivery - costing around £1 to transport goods within a 3-mile radius.

Certain food additives may interfere with your gut bacteria, causing changes that boost inflammation in the intestines and potentially promote the development of some chronic diseases, a new study suggests.

In the study, researchers looked at ingredients called emulsifiers, which are added to many processed foods, including ice cream and peanut butter, to improve those foods' texture and extend their shelf life.

Emulsifiers are listed on ingredient labels, but the additives go by many different names, Chassaing said. This makes it hard to avoid emulsifiers simply by reading food labels. The best way to keep from eating emulsifiers is to avoid processed food, he said.

When the researchers looked at the average amount of time that people in each country slept, they found that people in Singapore and Japan got the least amount of sleep, with an average of about 7 hours and 24 minutes per night, whereas people in the Netherlands got the most sleep, with 8 hours and 12 minutes, on average.

Though the difference in average sleep duration between these countries may not seem huge, every half-hour of sleep actually has a big impact on people's cognitive function and long-term health, the researchers said.

Eating nuts has been linked to a number of health benefits, such as a reduced risk of obesity, diabetes and heart disease. Now, new findings from South Korea suggest that a nut-rich diet may also reduce a person's risk of colon cancer.

Eating a serving of nuts three or more times a week appeared to have a big effect on risk, said Dr. Aesun Shin, an associate professor of preventive medicine at Seoul National University College of Medicine in South Korea and an author of the study.

In the study, a serving of nuts was considered to be 15 grams (0.5 ounces), Shin told Live Science. That's a smaller amount than what's considered a serving in the United States, she added. (A serving in the U.S. is 28 g, or 1 oz.)

The world must significantly increase its use of phosphorus-based fertiliser to meet future demands for food.
That's the conclusion of a study that suggests a fourfold rise in the amount of mineral and organic phosphorus needed on grasslands by 2050.

"There is already a societal concern that we are feeding too much of our cereal crops to livestock and that pressure will only increase if our grasslands decrease in productivity."

"The leaching of phosphorus from agricultural lands into rivers and eventually the sea leads to uncontrolled algae growth and dead zones such as the ones found in the Baltic Sea, Lake Erie and the Gulf of Mexico. This is an effect of increased fertilizer use in the past half century.

Aliens are controlling the Sun says evidence from solar observatory claims UFO researcher

"They are out there… around our sun, doing God knows what. They may actually be controlling the Sun, to keep a steady temperature here on Earth, or they could be harvesting a very rare and powerful heavy element. "Let's hope they don't make a mistake and barbecue our planet."

4) If you are in bed during the night and an earthquake occurs, simply roll off the bed. A safe void will exist around the bed. Hotels can achieve a much greater survival rate in earthquakes, simply by posting a sign on the back of the door of every room telling occupants to lie down on the floor, next to the bottom of the bed during an earthquake.

5) If an earthquake happens and you cannot easily escape by getting out the door or window, then lie down and curl up in the fetal position next to a sofa, or large chair.

Severe weather warnings are being issued as the snowstorm that hit the US heads to Britain, bringing up to 8ins (20cm) of rain in some areas.

The weather front will bring heavy downpours to the UK prompting warnings of flooding from the Met Office.

The rain from Storm Jonas is due to hit on Tuesday and warnings have been issued for most of Wales, north-west England, and south and west Scotland.

Yorkshire, which has already suffered catastrophic flooding this winter, has also been issued with a severe weather warning.

Experts behind the new guidelines have said a re-evaluation of research showing the benefits of alcohol for heart health had found problems with some of the studies.

Dame Sally said: "There's an old wives' tale that we were all brought up on - that a glass of red wine protected the heart.

"What we find with the science and evidence now is that, because of the improvements in heart outcomes, which is a success story in this country because of reducing smoking, controlling cholesterol, controlling blood pressure, that has gone down and then you have a different balance of harms.

The new guidance, from the UK's chief medical officers, says that no level of regular drinking is without risk to health.

While reducing emissions on a global scale may seem to be something only governments are capable of achieving, the relationship between meat and climate change shows that there are individual, societal, and industry-based changes that can be undertaken to curb climate change. Perhaps Arnold Schwarzenegger put it best on Tuesday, when the onetime Terminator and California governor said that people need to cut back on meat consumption in order to save the planet. He fell short of calling for all-out vegetarianism and argued in an interview with the BBC, “People will buy in to stop eating meat one or two days a week—you have to start slowly. It’s a very big challenge, but it doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be done.” Schwarzenegger is even confident that you can get built like his former Mr. Universe self without gorging of animal protein.

It is 5ft6in, and capable of eye contact, and can recognise people’s body language as they talk.

'Our final goal is creating some artificial intelligence by using this robot,' Kohei Ogawa, assistant professor at Hiroshi Ishiguro Laboratory at Osaka University.

'Most voice recognition systems do not work, especially in this kind of noisy environment.

'In the future we're going to create some perfect AI system by using this robot.'

"The teams have concluded the existence of several thermal anomalies that were observed on all monuments during the heating up or the cooling down phases," the statement said.

"To explain such anomalies, a lot of hypothesis and possibilities could be drawn up: presence of voids behind the surface, internal air currents," it added.

In particular, it said, an "impressive" anomaly was found "on the eastern side of the Khufu pyramid at ground level".

Although it’s usually chucked in the bin rather than eaten, scientists reckon the peel could aid weight loss and boost your immune system AND your mood.

“It contains high amounts of vitamin B6 and B12, as well as magnesium and potassium, and some fibre and protein,” Laura Flores, a San Diego-based nutritionist, told LiveScience.

Vitamin B6 helps the body’s immune system do it’s thing, improving the health or your brain and heart, and it normalises blood sugar levels. B12 also supports and brain and nervous system while antioxidents found in the skin can help speed up your metabolism – brilliant if you’re trying to lose a few pounds.

Paris staged a car-free day for the first time on Sunday, with large parts of the increasingly polluted French capital taken over by cyclists, joggers and families with pushchairs on roads normally choked by vehicles.

The roaring traffic of the world-renowned Champs-Elysees avenue was replaced by people strolling in the late September sunshine.

Paris became the latest city worldwide to hold a car-free day as it prepares to host United Nations-led climate negotiations this December seeking to seal a post-2020 pact on curbing greenhouse gases.

A new study claims that how well your toddler speaks now could determine how successful they are later on in life.

Children develop speech and walking abilities at different stages from each other but researchers believe that if they are speaking and reading well when they are just two-years-old, they are more likely to be high-earners and homeowners as adults.

The controversial study, conducted by researchers at the Pennsylvania State University, the University of California, Irvine, and Columbia University, analysed data for 8,650 children in the Early Childhood Longitudinal Study-Birth Cohort.

They believe that growth in speech and vocabulary at an early age plays a vital role in children being better behaved and prepared to learn when they start nursery.

In a move which may not be popular with overweight travelers, an airline has announced that it will weigh all passengers before letting them onto their aircraft.

Before boarding, passengers will be asked to step onto a special scale along with their luggage.

But Uzbekistan Airways,, based in Tashkent, says that the move is purely for research purposes, to calculate the average weight of passengers and their luggage.

The airline says the information is important on smaller planes - and that the airline will keep the information confidential.
