Tesla CEO Elon Musk's $1bn non-profit OpenAI has unveiled a new program to train robots to complete a specific task after watching a person demonstrate it just once. The artificial intelligence research company developed a new algorithm called one-shot imitation learning that lets researchers communicate a task to an AI by performing it first in virtual reality and teach it to replicate the physical action.

The plant that the woman used to make the tea, called foxglove, contains potentially harmful compounds that act on proteins called ion channels in heart cells, and can cause a person's heart rate to slow down, said the lead author of the report, Dr. Mathew Kurian Vithayathil, a doctor at the King’s College Hospital in London, who treated the woman
The new report shows that, although herbal remedies may seem harmless, they can also be potentially fatal, especially if they are sold or purchased by people who have limited knowledge of plants, the researchers said.

So, no matter how safe a self-driving car is, the reality remains that as long as there are are also human drivers neglecting the law and basic human decency, self-driving cars are still at risk of accidents. For example, a self-driving car may not be able to detect being cut off because it is assuming everyone else on the road is driving rationally and safely.
Still, 43 percent of study participants said they agreed that "most accidents are caused by human error, so autonomous vehicles will be safer." And 37 percent agreed that "machines don't have emotions, so they might be better drivers than humans."

If parents, teachers or therapists had learning tools that could start to shift that attention, to help children with autism prioritise people and particularly their faces in social interactions, it could have a significant impact.
Made for children ages 5 to 12, Alvares' three games focus on a sausage dog named Frankie who needs help finding his friends.
"All three [games] target particular social skills that we think at least some kids with autism would find challenging," she said. "There are things like understanding emotions, or being able to pay attention to faces over objects, and also a skill called joint attention, which is being able to follow somebody else's gaze."

The robots are designed to drive autonomously while being monitored by human operators in control centres who can take over at any time. Introduced to European and American cities since the end of last year, the robots have already driven close to 5,000 miles and met over 400,000 people without a single accident.
Allan Martinson, the chief operating officer of developer Starship Technologies, tells Sky News: "We haven't lost a single robot in eight months, or been involved in any accidents that resulted in loss or injury."
It is cheaper than regular delivery - costing around £1 to transport goods within a 3-mile radius.

Certain food additives may interfere with your gut bacteria, causing changes that boost inflammation in the intestines and potentially promote the development of some chronic diseases, a new study suggests.
In the study, researchers looked at ingredients called emulsifiers, which are added to many processed foods, including ice cream and peanut butter, to improve those foods' texture and extend their shelf life.
Emulsifiers are listed on ingredient labels, but the additives go by many different names, Chassaing said. This makes it hard to avoid emulsifiers simply by reading food labels. The best way to keep from eating emulsifiers is to avoid processed food, he said.

When the researchers looked at the average amount of time that people in each country slept, they found that people in Singapore and Japan got the least amount of sleep, with an average of about 7 hours and 24 minutes per night, whereas people in the Netherlands got the most sleep, with 8 hours and 12 minutes, on average.
Though the difference in average sleep duration between these countries may not seem huge, every half-hour of sleep actually has a big impact on people's cognitive function and long-term health, the researchers said.

Eating nuts has been linked to a number of health benefits, such as a reduced risk of obesity, diabetes and heart disease. Now, new findings from South Korea suggest that a nut-rich diet may also reduce a person's risk of colon cancer.
Eating a serving of nuts three or more times a week appeared to have a big effect on risk, said Dr. Aesun Shin, an associate professor of preventive medicine at Seoul National University College of Medicine in South Korea and an author of the study.
In the study, a serving of nuts was considered to be 15 grams (0.5 ounces), Shin told Live Science. That's a smaller amount than what's considered a serving in the United States, she added. (A serving in the U.S. is 28 g, or 1 oz.)

The world must significantly increase its use of phosphorus-based fertiliser to meet future demands for food.
That's the conclusion of a study that suggests a fourfold rise in the amount of mineral and organic phosphorus needed on grasslands by 2050.
"There is already a societal concern that we are feeding too much of our cereal crops to livestock and that pressure will only increase if our grasslands decrease in productivity."
"The leaching of phosphorus from agricultural lands into rivers and eventually the sea leads to uncontrolled algae growth and dead zones such as the ones found in the Baltic Sea, Lake Erie and the Gulf of Mexico. This is an effect of increased fertilizer use in the past half century.

Aliens are controlling the Sun says evidence from solar observatory claims UFO researcher

"They are out there… around our sun, doing God knows what. They may actually be controlling the Sun, to keep a steady temperature here on Earth, or they could be harvesting a very rare and powerful heavy element. "Let's hope they don't make a mistake and barbecue our planet."

4) If you are in bed during the night and an earthquake occurs, simply roll off the bed. A safe void will exist around the bed. Hotels can achieve a much greater survival rate in earthquakes, simply by posting a sign on the back of the door of every room telling occupants to lie down on the floor, next to the bottom of the bed during an earthquake.
5) If an earthquake happens and you cannot easily escape by getting out the door or window, then lie down and curl up in the fetal position next to a sofa, or large chair.
